A Harvard student organization is moving forward with the reenactment of a black mass.

I am hearing a lot of conflation and little common sense amongst those defending the “mass”.
Fr. Roger Landry, a Fall River priest and Harvard alumn, points out:
Harvard simply would never allow itself or its properties to be associated with events that mock the religious beliefs, desecrate the sacred texts, or insult the spiritual sensitivities of Jews or Muslims. Likewise it wouldn’t allow its reputation or institution to be affiliated in any way with the activities or views of an “independent student organization” that was reenacting the lynchings of African Americans or homophobic attacks or violence against women. Harvard would act decisively in those situations, both out of just concern for its own reputation but also out of moral outrage against such insensitivity that clear thinking, ethical people immediately recognize as evil.
Amidst the media storm surrounding the satanic activity at Harvard, let’s remember that satan pulls people to hell with him each day through the covert and subtle. Blatant violations of Divine Law always motivate people of good faith and conscience. That’s why satan acts quietly. As the old maxim goes, “The best trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”
1 Peter reminds us that “Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for [someone] to devour.” These days the lion doesn’t roar, but instead quietly mingles with before attacking his prey. To this end, let this black mass be a wakeup call to all of us. We are called daily to oppose satan’s activity in the world. Let’s rally around that.
